Blown Away: Lessons from Yarrella
Feb 23, 2025I was out walking after a storm at Yarrella, I found myself dodging fallen branches and puddles when something caught my eye to the right of the track—a nest, perfectly intact, lying on the ground like it had parachuted down for a soft landing. I paused, picked it up, marvelling at the craftsmanship. Seriously, birds are nature’s engineers—twigs, grass, even the odd bit of horses mane salvaged from our paddock all woven together like they had a blueprint.
And there it was, unscathed, despite being flung from the top of a tree. The resilience of this little nest got me thinking (and chuckling a bit at my own to-do list):
- Build it to last: Whether it’s a nest or a plan, solid craftsmanship pays off when things get stormy.
- Weather the chaos: Sometimes life throws a gale your way, but the best-built things hold their shape.
- Find beauty in the mess: Even after the storm, there’s often something worth salvaging—and sometimes it’s downright inspiring.
At Yarrella, it’s these little moments that remind us how much there is to learn from nature—and how much humour helps when things don’t go to plan. Sometimes the storm is part of the fun.
